W19D2 – Electrician and Engineers – never a good mix…
So the Structural engineer came over today and we had a good chat about what was needed – looks like an additional steel post and crank steel will be needed to ordered and fitted to make the desired changes to hold up the roof. The purlins are taking most of the weight and we only really need to support the ridge of the existing house at that point so we could get away with making a few amendments and should have something workable – however we are now finding problems with insurance companies not wanting to insure us due to ongoing building works.
But on a positive note today, the wall was built up to clean up the hole in the wall. The electricians turned up and put about 5 miles of cable into the 1st fix downstairs as the upper floor was a mess of demolition works. The plan is that the electricians will come back tomorrow to complete the upper first fix.
The chap who is doing the stairs did not come today so god knows when he is coming over.
