W12D1 – “Bye Bye” Kitchen and “Hello Steels”…
Today saw the kitchen neatly butchered and the space in the house is slowly dwindling to get the steels into the outer shell of the house. Kids are off school and awake at 8am. Not because they wanted to, but the drilling, sawing, brick hammering and general noise is not conducive to sleep. Poor sods.
The oven and sink are now a mere history and most of the cupboards will not see the light of day again but hey ho – progress is being made. This is what we are left with at the moment for the foreseeable future..
The walls are being taken away and the arcos need to go into place to hold the upper part of the house until the steels are in.
Lots of shouting and banging going on and seems like we are getting somewhere. The Steels are in the back of the house and looks like we may get the rest of the kitchen steels in tomorrow which in turn means we can get the joist hangers, joists and brickwork going on again.
Then there is the scaffolding conundrum, Gemma the less-than-helpful neighbour from next door is still being an arse and avoiding me – I saw her get into her car this morning and called after her and all she did was look elsewhere and pretend not to see me – drive away without answering whether we could put any scaffolding up. We have come to an arrangement with the builders that I do not give a toss about her and they should do whatever is practical. I do hope that there will be a need for her to ask us for assistance in the near future as we would give great pleasure in telling her to fuck off !
I have decided that I am going to be asking for remuneration for the maintenance work to the party wall and also to remove the concrete pillar that has been built upon the wall. This is causing undue stress to the wall and needs to be removed. It’s just a shame that the fence needs to come down to complete this task. 🙂
